Understanding Skin Irritation
You know when you have a spot that’s itching, burning, red, flaking…? Most times it will be diagnosed at contact dermatitis, but It helps to know this…
An external skin reaction is generally caused by contact with an external irritant. Maybe a bee sting or ant bite, touching poison ivy or laundry detergent.
An internal skin reaction can be caused by a food allergy, autoimmune disorders like eczema and psoriasis or internal heat, in the gut, caused by excess acid.
Whatever the reason, we know your first concern is to stop the pain and discomfort. So a topical solution is an option. Sometimes a topical application will calm the area enough so that you will stop scratching and allow the area to heal.
Other times it may take more. Looking at your diet, your cleaning supplies, even the commonality of fabric in your wardrobe might give some answers.
If you want to help yourself, take a close look at what you eat most frequently, what you come into contact with during your days and don’t forget to consider your average level of daily stress and anxiety. It’s a great place to start but remember when symptoms don’t improve or even worsen, it is wise to consult a physician.
